Beyond stationery design, I am passionate about home decor and organization, and wanted to share this new home improvement project! You see, it's been a suburban mom dream to have a built-in cabinets in our mud room to organize all the things...coats, gloves, backpacks, and endless shoes.
After pinning mudroom ideas for years HERE, I developed this option in Illustrator and hired a talented carpenter who built it to perfection! And now it's painted in colors that coordinate with the rest of our home that we built 5 years ago. I just LOVE how it turned out, and it's been so functional for our family of four already.
The built-in is about 9' tall (we have 10' ceilings) by 6 1/2' wide. The cabinet doors were constructed in a similar style as our kitchen cabinets, and they are soft-close to boot. Under the cabinets, there are large open shelves for bins. I bought fabric bins that will be gentle on the newly painted wood. Many hooks were added for coats and bags. The bench was built at nearly 30" tall for our tall / soon to be tall family to sit on comfortably. And my favorite part (other than the ship lap wall) is the shoe shelves! They are adjustable height and removable, and they hold a ton of shoes. Lower shelves can be removed in the winter to store taller boots.
